Applications open in late fall.
You do not need an idea, a technical background, or a plan. You need to be willing to have a belief taken apart in a room.
Who should apply
Have something you want to change? Start here.
Every major. Every year. If you have caught yourself arguing that a popular fix is aimed at the wrong thing, this is the room for that argument.
The process
What happens after you apply.
- 01
Application
A short written form. We ask what problem you have been thinking about and why it has not been solved already.
- 02
Group interview
Six to eight applicants work a problem together for half an hour. We are watching how you argue, not whether you win.
- 03
Individual conversation
Fifteen minutes with a member of the founding team. Mostly your questions about the club.
Questions
What people ask.
No. Members come from engineering, finance, public policy, life sciences, and the humanities. A room full of one major asks one kind of question, which is the opposite of what we want.
No. Most members arrive without one. The fall exists to find one, and plenty of people end up working on someone else's problem rather than their own.
Most of them aren't. Problems in housing, healthcare access, local government, and education come up as often as anything that needs code.
One meeting a week, plus whatever your own proposal needs. Members who join a project team in the spring should expect that to grow.
An application, a group interview, and a short individual conversation. We are reading for whether you can hold a problem open instead of closing it fast.
By the end of the fall the club converges on one or two proposals. Those become staffed project teams and launch in the spring.
